Step 5 – Create Passive Income With A Follow Up System

Just as with step 4, this step is much easier than most people think. And it’s vitally important to your success. Creating a powerful follow up system is my #1 technique for creating passive income on the Internet.

NOTE: When you hear the term passive or residual income what people mean is income you receive now based on work you did in the past. Setting up a follow up system now that creates sales three months from now without further effort is creating passive income.

And the ability to create passive income is the MOST powerful thing that the Internet offers you and me.

The key here is not to create the perfect follow up system, but to create a follow up system now. You can always refine it later.

If you completed step 3 your follow up system practically writes itself!

All you need do is take the information from the products you included on your resource page and make each one a message in your follow up system.

To add power to this idea you can find articles on the Internet that are about the same topic as the products you will promote and alternate them with the selling messages you send about the products on your resource page.

Here’s one possible schedule for a follow up system. Notice that the messages go out every 3 days. That’s a great schedule because you will never be forgotten yet should not be sending too many emails to any one person.

Day 1 – Thank you and here’s your free gift.
Day 4 – Article about product #1
Day 7 – Solo ad for product #1
Day 10 – Article about product #2
Day 13 – Solo ad for product #2
And so on.

It simply makes sense since we just don’t know when our prospective customers will be ready to buy or exactly what they need. Offering a range of products based on a common theme (like marketing products or health products or financial products) is very smart business.

Here are some tips to make your follow up series a success.

Never send messages every day.
Honor all unsubscribe requests immediately. Your autoresponder service should have a “one click” way for people to leave your list.
Add a line to your email signature offering your free gift and your informational series of messages.
If you use free articles from other people for your messages be sure to choose short articles. Articles under 700 words in length are read more often than long articles. Be sure to include the resource box to honor the author of the article.
If you want to write your own articles but are not sure how to do it, try writing a review of a product to start. People love reviews when they are from the heart and not just sales messages.
Use a pop up window on your site to offer your free gift and messages to every visitor. Popups still work very well.
