Step 2 – Create a Web Page

Yes … You NEED Your Own Site

The reasons to create your own web page are powerful indeed. The simple fact is that you will need a website of your own at some point, so you might as well do it now.

With your own site you can generate leads, build a list, use a follow up to supercharge your sales, and more.

This article is not about website development, so I’ll just touch on each briefly.

The advantages of having your own website are:

    1. The ability to capture a visitor’s information and follow up. The most important thing you need to do is get people to ask for more information. It’s not hard to do if you know the right steps.

    On your site, once a visitor asks for more information you can send them a series of messages on why they should buy your product, along with the useful information you offered.

    Most people don’t buy on the first visit, so this is crucial to your long-term success.

    2. The ability to craft special offers for the products you promote – even when you are an affiliate. Don’t think that because you are an affiliate you don’t control the sale. With your own site you can offer special incentives, like unique bonus items, that the customer can request via email after they buy.

    This works very well and you can get these bonus items on most resale rights sites once you make a little money.

    3. The ability to change the products you promote at will. Let’s say that you create a site about autoresponders and are making some sales, and then the company you have been promoting becomes less desirable or goes out of business.

    With your own site you simply change the copy and you won’t miss a beat. If you had been sending that traffic directly to the site you had been promoting it would be much harder to make a mid-course correction.

    4. You will be building a presence on the search engines. The advantages here are obvious. Search engine traffic is much easier to get than most people think, and having your own site is the first step.

    5. You can sell space on your site as the site starts to earn visitors and sales. This will not happen until you have some serious traffic and can prove it. But selling space on your site can be very profitable. In fact, selling space on your site is the basis of Google’s wildly popular AdSense program.

Choose A Host That Offers Templates

Creating your own site is very easy now. You need to start with a good hosting company. Look for one that provides templates to make creating websites quick and easy and you will be a step ahead.

When it comes to creating an information website, remember that the site design does not matter. The quality of the information, not the presentation, is what matters most.

    Using a blog as your site will give you the added advantage of being able to syndicate your content via RSS. Although an explanation of RSS is beyond the scope of this report, using a blog will practically assure you a fast listing on Yahoo.

No matter what service you choose, do not get a host that offers free hosting but requires that their banners appear on your site. Experience has proven that this does not work and hurts sales badly since you cannot control where the banner appears or what it says.

What Type Of Site?

The product you choose and your personality will determine the type of site you create. By all means, feel free to be yourself! After all, this is your site.

    My recommendation is that you create a review site. A review site simply means that you write short reviews of the top 10 or so products in any field.

Sticking with our autoresponder example from before, you could review the top 10 autoresponder companies, explain the difference between an autoresponder service and autoresponder software, find articles about how to use autoresponders to post on your site, and give a free book about autoresponders to each visitor who requests it.

By creating a review site you have the best of all worlds. Just consider:

  • The search engines will love your site since it is topic specific and reward you with free traffic.
  • You earn a commission no matter what your reader chooses since you only review those products that carry an affiliate program.
  • People who ask for your free gift can also receive follow up messages about other products, creating a powerful back end income.
  • As your traffic grows you could even sell space on your site to large autoresponder companies who want even more business!

Other types of sites that work well for affiliates are:

  • Top ten sites – List the top 10 companies in your chosen niche.
  • Best Buy Sites – Show people where to get the best prices and build loyalty for your site while you earn.
  • Hot Deal Sites – Build a powerful mailing list by offering to blast an email to your list when you find hot bargains that won’t last long.

No matter what type of site you choose, establish your online presence now and you put time on your side.
